CESR recently made a written submission to The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in light of the Day of General Discussion (DGD) on the right to sexual and reproductive health. It takes place on November 15, 2010 during the Committee's 45th session. The DGD will guide work leading to the formulation of a future general comment on the right to sexual and reproductive health. Sexual and reproductive health rights continue to be neglected, contested and violated with impunity worldwide.
CESR's written submission provided input to the DGD on how the general comment's key objectives should be to:
- Reaffirm the importance of sexual and reproductive rights as an integral and indivisible part of the human rights framework;
- Clarify the scope and content of legal obligations around sexual and reproductive rights and;
- Provide more guidance to states on how to make human rights principles operational in sexual and reproductive health policy and practice.
