'Freedom from Fear and Freedom from Want – How can a Post-2015 agenda address the human rights challenges of the 21st century – Recommendations emerging from a Global Conversation' (Tuesday 21 May, 1.15pm, Conference Room 3, United Nations Conference Building, UN Headquarters, New York)

The coming months will have a pivotal impact on the future of global development and, as such, on the wellbeing of ordinary people everywhere. With debate over a new development framework to replace the Millennium Development Goals when they expire in 2015 heating up, the need to place human rights at the very core of the new agenda has emerged as a resounding consensus from civil society all over the world.

Lessons drawn from global consultations organized by the United Nations over the past year will be explained at an event in New York on Tuesday. CESR Executive Director Ignacio Saiz will join a panel of esteemed human rights experts at the meeting, which will highlight the key messages that have emerged from the consultations and assess ways these should be integrated into the post-2015 plan. Full details of this important meeting can be found in the invitation which can be accessed in pdf format here.

CESR has also been collaborating with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on a new publication offering a comprehensive exploration of one of the most important human rights principles in this regard – accountability. The new document - “Who Will Be Accountable? Human Rights and the Post-2015 Development Agenda” – explains that this standard is critical to ensure the new framework does not result in another set of unfulfilled promises. An invitation to the launch event can be downloaded here.
