CESR routinely works in front of the United Nations to uphold economic and social rights. Some of the advocacy work we do at the UN level in Geneva and New York involves official submissions of reports and publications through the UN's various mechanisms and committees for monitoring economic and social rights.
Often, these are our reviews of how various countries have upheld their obligations to respect, protect and fulfill the right to education, health, food, water, housing, work and other economic and social rights as enshrined in UN treaties and international law. Frequently, we work in collaboration with other non-governmental and civil society organizations to create joint submissions.
Included below are some of CESR's recent official submissions to the UN's Human Rights Council, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, the Committee on the Rights of the Child and other UN bodies.
In addition, CESR also produces analyses of many countries' economic and social rights records through its "Visualizing Rights" country fact sheet series. Those country fact sheets help graphically illustrate the condition of governments' economic and social rights obligations, and are an additional way to enable intergovernmental human rights mechanisms, such as the UN, and national and international NGOs, monitor governments' compliance with their economic, social and cultural rights obligations.
