Note: The framework for most sessions of the meeting has been derived from participant responses to the questionnaire distributed in the invitation package.
Thursday, October 5
9:00 – 10:00 Welcome and Introductory Remarks
A Ford representative will welcome participants and the meeting facilitator will present the agenda, followed by brief introductions by participants.
10:00-11:15 Session One: Case Studies of ESCR Work
Each participant will present a case study of his/her work in ESCR (5 minutes each). The case study should discuss both the challenges of ESCR work confronted by each organizational participant and the potential value of increased learning, information sharing and coalition building in confronting these challenges.
11:30-1:00 Session Two: Current Challenges and Strategic Questions on an ESCR Network
The discussion will continue to build on the participants work by focusing on challenges and lessons they have encountered in local, regional and international networking efforts.
1:00-2:00 Lunch Break
2:00-5:00 Session Three: Functions and Activities of a Network
This session will present an overview of potential network functions and activities, based on participant responses to the questionnaire, followed by a moderated discussion.
Friday, October 6
9:30-12:30 Session Four: Prioritizing Functions and Activities of Network
Based on the previous day’s discussions and on participant responses to the questionnaire, this session will focus on short and long term priorities of the network.
12:30-2:00 Lunch Presentation: Urban Justice Center’s Right to Food Project
2:00-6:00 Session Four: Next Steps for Establishing the Network
This session will focus on issues such as coordination and decision-making structures, thematic v. regional organization, criteria for membership and participation, and outreach to a broader spectrum of social justice groups. Participants will close the meeting with suggestions for concrete next steps to move the process forward.
7:00-9:00 Group Dinner
